Recalibraing Your Roomba Battery

If you’ve owned a Roomba for more then a year you have no doubt noticed that the battery life is drastically reduced from when you bought it. Recalibrating, also known as reconditioning, your battery is a simple procedure that may help you reclaim some of that life.

  1. Charge your Roomba up all the way
  2. Run a ‘max’ cycle instead of ‘clean’
  3. When the Roomba thinks the battery is dead, pull the battery out
  4. Hold down the power button on the Roomba for ten seconds, this will discharge all of the capacitors which will reset the charging controller
  5. Put the battery back in the Roomba
  6. Plug the Roomba into the charger, don’t use the home base for this initial charge. Let it charge for 24 hours and see if you’ve regained any battery life.

In some cases this will help, but my Roomba Discovery’s stock APS battery was too far gone and would only hold charge for six minutes.

If your battery is due for a replacement you could either replace it with the stock battery or crack open the battery case and replace the cells, saving you money and getting you a higher capacity battery.

    Thank you for the suggestion.
Roomba owners: if you decide to buy a new Roomba replacement battery on the market, be aware of battery capacity and quality.
Lower price battery pack may not have good quality on all 12 cells.
Before you buy a battery, check the battery capacity too.
It is difficult to tell the actual battery capacity from Amazon resellers since battery detail specification may not match the battery pack you are buying. You need to verify the battery capacity before you buy from Amazon site.
It is easy to buy 3300mAh NiMh high capacity battery pack directly from the following resellers:

Ok Jordan. Seriously I did a search for Roomba battery charging and this was the second thing that came up on Google. This is a little creepy. Seriously. Creepy.
